With 2020 whizzing by so quickly, we're up to the second half of the year already! So welcome to July and with that, there a few things happening on King St to get you out & about!

Potato Boy and Northside Coffee Brewers  |  Opening 1 July

We are thrilled to see the opening of Potato Boy and Northside Coffee Brewers! Located near the corner of King Street and St Paul's Terrace, mark Wednesday July 1 in your calendars now.

Serving up a sustainable menu using produce from Australia's premier seafood suppliers, Potato Boy will offer a tempting take-away menu, inspired by the classic Fish 'n' Chips we know and love of quintessential Aussie corner stores. Think triple-cooked, hand-made chips accompanied by sustainably sourced sea perch coated in a thick, crispy beer and vodka batter served with creamy, house-made tartare. This mouth-watering combo, done the 'proper' way, will impress the most devoted Fish 'n' Chip lover. Opening Wednesday 1 July from 11am.

Northside Coffee Brewers will cater to the coffee lover with a less is more attitude. Specialty roaster Black Sheep Coffee will supply the new hot spot two of their signature blends. Whether you enjoy your espresso with or without milk, batch brew, or cold drip, Northside Coffee Brewers will have you covered. For those feeling a little peckish, a double-smoked bacon burger and a soft scrambled egg burger with caramelised onions will satisfy those serious breakfast cravings while a delicious pastry assortment from Sprout Artisan Bakery will be sure to entice the most devoted sweet tooth. Commune at The Tivoli  |  July

Lovers of fine food and great music can now indulge in two of the best things in life, as The Tivoli reveals a brand new, intimate in-venue takeover experience. 

Commune at The Tivoli will see the historic art deco venue transformed into an intimate restaurant with dining, entertainment and theming expertly curated to individual bookings for groups of between 16 and 20 guests until 11 July, and then 40 thereafter. Groups will have exclusive access to the venue and will be greeted with a glass of  champagne on arrival, followed by a seated 4-course shared meal, including a cheese and charcuterie starter, from experts Dalton Catering & Events and matched wines by Bacchus Wine Merchants.

Guests can curate their own playlist through CrowdDJ by Nightlife, and have it played through The Tivoli’s world class sound system. There’s also The Tivoli Bottle Shop and Café, with the team regularly restocking their shelves with more merch, booze, and music, as a result of growing demand.

Jazz Music Institute  |  Helen Russell Trio Live  |  Thursday 9 July

Helen Russell is a bassist, vocalist, arranger, musical director and educator based in Brisbane, Australia. Her career has encompassed many styles of music performance – music theatre, country, gospel, pop, classical – whilst always having jazz at its core. Helen has been a constant on the Brisbane jazz scene since the late-80s, performing with both the old guard and the-up-and-comers. Helen has taught in jazz programs at the Queensland Conservatorium, QCU, JMI, and is currently a full-time lecturer in Contemporary Music at USQ, Toowoomba.

At JMI Live, Helen will be performing a set of seldom-heard standards with long time collaborators Jamie Clark (guitar) and Aaron Jansz (drums).

Montrachet  Re-opening  |  From 15 July

For lovers of French food, Montrachet is re-opening for dine-in on Wednesday 15 July! Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday, and for lunch on Fridays, bookings will be essential. So if you can't make Montrachet's very special Bastille Day celebrations which are already booked out, ensure you make a reservation to treat yourself to the very best French cuisine in Brisbane sometime soon.

Things will be a little different due to current restrictions meaning a maximum of 20 guests at a time, so the team at Montrachet appreciates your patience and support.

CAMS Cycling Collective  |  Beginner / Skills Course  |  From 18 July

Need to refresh your cycle skills? New to the road or group riding? Returning to cycling, or a social cyclist looking for more from your bike?

CAMS Beginner / Skills Course is specially designed to accommodate novices and social riders who are keen to refresh, update and/or advance their bike skills.

Over two weeks CAMS will build your confidence through various tips, techniques and practice. Your bike handling skills will improve, and you will become a better cyclist with the confidence to ride on the road, solo or in a group – all under the professional guidance of CAMS experienced and accredited coaches. The course includes five coached sessions (2 x outdoor, 2 x indoor and a group ride) over two weeks starting 18 July. New cyclists welcome. Full details here.
