King Street set to reinvigorate the Brisbane Showgrounds

Queensland’s playground, Brisbane’s heart

Want to celebrate the best of Brisbane in its most iconic location?

Watch 140 years of history evolve into its next chapter

The Brisbane Showgrounds has been cemented in our hearts since 1875 as one of Queensland’s favourite gathering places – home to the Ekka and many other exciting events!
Now, it has opened its heart to Brisbane’s newest community, King Street. This brand new retail high street is brought to life with laneway shops, apartments, office buildings and restaurants to brag about.
With a stylish new four star hotel, convention centre and plenty of outdoor areas to enjoy the best of Queensland’s sunshine, King Street is coming to life both day and night in the heart of Brisbane.

Residents have moved in, savvy workers and business folk have made Kingsgate, the first commercial tower, their nine to five and shops, restaurants and bars are coming to life along the street too. It’s an exciting time for this special part of Brisbane – a local treasure changing before our eyes!
Only 1.6kms from Brisbane’s CBD, the $2.6 billion Brisbane Showgrounds redevelopment, including King Street, is a partnership between the RNA and Lendlease. They’re both dedicated to celebrating and weaving the area’s history into this vibrant and growing neighbourhood. This next chapter is ensuring King Street is the place where Brisbane chooses to hang out. The local’s secret.

We create the best places

We believe in creating the best places. Places that meet people’s needs for the future, a future for people and communities to prosper. Places where people live, learn, work, play, heal, travel and above all, connect. At Lendlease we believe the Brisbane Showgrounds project is more than the bricks and mortar of the Showgrounds. They are the community, events and brands Queenslanders know and the character and heritage Queenslanders have held dear since 1876.

For the urban renewal of the Brisbane Showgrounds, boundaries between past and future have been blurred with a focus on restoring and repurposing materials that have been embedded in and have been synonymous with the Showgrounds since its inception. We focus on building a sense of place and weaving sustainability into everything that we do.
