THEN AND NOW

King St is a thriving community with a proud history of agriculture and entertainment.

Since its opening in 1875, the Brisbane Showgrounds has stood as the heart of Brisbane’s agricultural and entertainment landscape. Its rich history is marked by defining moments - from Sir Donald Bradman’s test debut, to its role as a field hospital during World War II. It was here that American aviator Arthur Burr Stone made the first-ever flight over Brisbane, landing on the main arena. The Showgrounds has also given rise to some of the city’s most cherished festivals, most notably the EKKA - a beloved celebration of Queensland’s agricultural heritage that continues to unite generations.
