KING ST X SAM HARRISON
As part of our Last Night event — a vibrant all-ages street party presented in collaboration with The Tivoli — we invited artist Sam Harrison to create a live mural, bringing dynamic energy and creativity to the celebration.
The finished piece now lives on the wall near Kuhl-Cher café, a striking fusion of movement and colour that continues to echo the spirit of the night and inspire passersby.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sam Harrison is a Brisbane based artist with ties to Camilleri and Rodgery mobs of central NSW. Sam loves to create his artwork live in front of an audience to gain immediate feedback from the community on his designs as they are being created.
THE ARTWORK
This artwork brings together three key elements that reflect the story and spirit of place. The first is the intricate patterning that represents song lines and traditional pathways connected to the site, with one line extending north past Mullaney and two pathways flowing south. The second is the mirrored imagery of the river, symbolising the area’s long history as a meeting place both before and after European contact. The third element is the foreground of native medicinal plants, embodying the nurturing qualities of Country. Together, these features capture the energy and anticipation that the site inspires — a sense of shared excitement and connection, as though standing on the threshold of something just about to begin.
